Lost-it — Global Lost-and-Found Platform
Operator: Standard Vision for Business Solutions | Registered in Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
Website: https://lost-it.global | Legal contact: claims@lost-it.global
Version 2.0 | Draft publication date: 22 October 2026
These Terms apply globally to the extent permitted by applicable law. Mandatory local rights and rules continue to apply.
1. Acceptance and scope
These Terms of Use ("Terms") form an agreement between you and Standard Vision for Business Solutions ("Company", "we", "us"), which owns and operates the Lost-it website and related services (collectively, the "Platform"). By creating an account, submitting a report, contacting another user, or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
The Privacy Policy and any clearly identified supplemental rules applicable to a particular feature complement these Terms. If a mandatory law gives you rights that cannot be limited by contract, those rights prevail over any inconsistent provision here.
2. Global availability and local law
The Platform is designed for users in multiple countries. Availability in a location does not mean every feature or type of listing is lawful or appropriate there. You are responsible for complying with laws applicable where you live, where an item was found or lost, and where an item is held or handed over.
In particular, local laws may require a finder to notify the police, a transportation operator, a venue, an employer, or another designated authority; deliver an item into official custody; observe time limits; or refrain from retaining or transferring certain property. A Platform listing does not replace these obligations. We may restrict access, features, listings, or geographic availability where legally required or reasonably necessary for safety and compliance.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to accept these Terms to register an account, unless we expressly provide a lawful, appropriately safeguarded minor-access arrangement. Do not register on behalf of another person without authority.
Provide accurate, current account and contact information; protect your credentials; and promptly notify us of suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity under your account to the extent permitted by applicable law. We may request reasonable verification to prevent abuse, but account creation or verification does not establish property ownership or identity beyond what we expressly confirm.
You may delete your account directly through the Platform’s account deletion feature. Deletion consequences, including retention required or permitted by law and backup cycles, are described in the Privacy Policy. Account deletion does not automatically resolve outstanding legal obligations or existing disputes.
4. What Lost-it does—and does not do
Lost-it provides tools for posting and discovering lost-and-found notices and for connecting people who may be able to reunite property with its lawful owner. Depending on the feature and user choices, communication may occur through Platform messaging and telephone contact details.
Lost-it is an information and connection service—not a law-enforcement agency, title registry, insurer, carrier, escrow service, payment processor for private rewards, warehouse, bailee, or physical custodian of listed property. Unless we expressly state otherwise for a future feature, we do not take possession of items, authenticate legal title, adjudicate ownership claims, supervise handovers, guarantee successful recovery, or guarantee any user’s honesty, identity, conduct, or safety.
5. Listings and accurate reporting
Only post a lost or found item when you have a genuine, lawful basis to do so. Use accurate categories, descriptive details, approximate location, and dates to the extent known. Do not fabricate finds, falsely claim ownership, post the same item repeatedly to mislead users, or offer property that is stolen, unlawfully possessed, counterfeit in a manner violating law, or otherwise prohibited.
You must have the right to share any photograph, description, or other material you upload. Do not publish another person’s home address, government identification number, banking data, passwords, full document images, precise live location, or other unnecessary sensitive information. Obscure identifiers and unique proof-of-ownership details that should be reserved for private verification.
We may provide private fields or reporting channels for ownership evidence. Do not assume information is private unless clearly indicated by the user interface. Report inaccuracies and remove or update resolved listings promptly.
6. Ownership verification and lawful return
Before transferring an item, the person holding it should reasonably assess the claimant’s right to receive it, using private distinguishing details, receipts, device-specific information, or other appropriate evidence without unnecessarily collecting or sharing sensitive personal data. A claimant must not use stolen credentials, intimidation, fraudulent documents, or fabricated evidence.
Where there are competing claims, suspicious circumstances, legal restrictions, or uncertainty, parties should suspend handover and contact the competent local authority or venue operator where appropriate. Do not expose security codes, unlock credentials, or complete identity documents to prove ownership. Each participant is responsible for arranging a lawful, safe return; we do not determine the rightful owner.
7. Special categories of items
Passports, national identity cards, driving licences, payment cards, access credentials, confidential business materials, medications, firearms, ammunition, hazardous substances, animals, and other regulated or sensitive items require special care and may be subject to official reporting or delivery requirements. Do not publicly display usable identity or financial document details, private medical information, or security credentials.
For weapons, suspected explosives, dangerous substances, suspected contraband, or situations presenting immediate danger, do not attempt to transport, inspect, or hand over the item through the Platform. Contact the appropriate emergency or public authority. For government-issued documents, contact the issuing authority, police, or relevant institution where required. We may refuse, remove, or restrict categories of reports for safety and legal reasons.
8. User communications, contact information and safety
Users may contact one another using supported messaging, comments or telephone contact options. Contact information visibility depends on the Platform’s design and available account settings, as explained in the Privacy Policy. Use contact details only to address the relevant lost-and-found report—not for marketing, harassment, profiling, or unrelated solicitation.
Use caution with unknown persons. Prefer public, well-lit handover locations; consider involving venue staff or relevant authorities; avoid sharing home addresses or financial credentials; do not send advance payments or "verification fees" at a stranger’s request; and never put yourself at risk to retrieve an item. Lost-it cannot guarantee a risk-free meeting.
9. Rewards, expenses and payments
Users may voluntarily offer or discuss rewards, reimbursement of expenses, or other lawful arrangements. Such arrangements are solely between the participating users, subject to applicable law. Unless a specific future paid feature expressly states otherwise, Lost-it does not collect, hold in escrow, process, insure, guarantee, or enforce user-to-user rewards, and is not a party to these arrangements.
Do not misrepresent a reward, demand unlawful payment, condition legally required delivery to authorities on a payment, or use rewards for extortion or fraud. A reward listing is not a promise or guarantee by Lost-it. The Platform is currently described as free for ordinary use; any optional paid feature introduced later must present its price and applicable supplemental terms before purchase.
10. Prohibited conduct
You must not: (a) steal, traffic, conceal, extort, defraud, impersonate, threaten, stalk, or harass; (b) make intentionally false or misleading reports or ownership claims; (c) trade in illegal, dangerous, or restricted goods; (d) publish sensitive information without authorization; (e) scrape, harvest, resell, or use user data for unrelated purposes; (f) spam or send unsolicited advertisements; (g) interfere with the Platform, bypass security controls, reverse engineer where legally prohibited, distribute malware, or access another account without permission; (h) evade a lawful suspension or abuse reporting processes; or (i) violate intellectual-property, privacy, consumer-protection, or other applicable laws.
We may take appropriate and proportionate action in response to suspected misconduct, including refusing publication, restricting a feature, preserving relevant evidence as allowed by law, and reporting serious concerns to competent authorities.
11. User-generated content and licence
You retain ownership of content you create and submit, subject to the rights of others. By submitting content, you grant the Company a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, format, display, translate for accessibility, distribute within the Platform, and technically adapt that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, moderate, maintain, and explain the Platform and its listings. This licence lasts while the content is hosted and for reasonable technical, backup, compliance, and dispute-handling periods thereafter, subject to applicable law.
This licence does not transfer ownership to the Company. Any separate use of identifiable user content in external advertising or promotional campaigns will require an appropriate lawful basis and, where required, permission. You represent that your submission and the rights you grant do not unlawfully infringe others’ rights.
12. Our intellectual property
The Platform’s software, design, original text, logos, trade names, and other proprietary materials belong to the Company or its licensors. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to access and use the Platform for its intended lawful purposes, subject to these Terms. Nothing grants rights in our trademarks or software beyond those expressly stated or required by law.
13. Review, moderation and reports
We may review content before or after publication, use reasonable technical tools and human assessment, and reject, label, restrict, remove, or retain listings according to these Terms, applicable law, and user safety considerations. Moderation does not mean we verify an item’s ownership, legality, authenticity, or the accuracy of every listing. Some harmful or illegal content may remain undetected.
Users and third parties may report suspected illegal content, fraud, privacy violations, ownership abuse, or other safety concerns through available Platform reporting mechanisms or claims@lost-it.global. Reports should identify the relevant listing or account, explain the concern, and provide reasonably available supporting information without oversharing sensitive data.
Where required by applicable law, including any applicable obligations for online intermediary services, we will provide relevant explanations for content restrictions, accessible complaint or review channels, and other procedural safeguards. Reporting does not guarantee immediate removal or a particular decision.
14. Suspension, termination and appeals
We may temporarily restrict, suspend, or terminate access when reasonably necessary for suspected fraud, serious or repeated policy violations, legal obligations, threats to safety or security, or misuse of the Platform. Measures should be proportionate to the circumstances, taking into account severity, available evidence, and repeat conduct.
When legally required and reasonably possible, we will provide notice, reasons, and an opportunity to challenge a decision. You may also contact claims@lost-it.global about a moderation or account action. We may withhold details where disclosure would compromise safety, investigations, rights of others, or legal requirements. We may retain records to the extent legally required or permitted after account closure.
15. Privacy and personal data
Our Privacy Policy explains collection, uses, sharing, international hosting and transfers, security, user rights, retention, and deletion of personal data. It forms a separate transparency notice and should be read together with these Terms. We use HTTPS for data transmitted between users’ browsers and the Platform and maintain backups, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Our operating company and authorized personnel may access data for legitimate operations and compliance. Information may be disclosed to authorities when required or otherwise authorized by applicable law. Users can initiate account deletion through the Platform’s self-service feature; certain information may remain when lawful retention or backup processes apply.
16. Third-party services and external links
The Platform may interact with third-party authentication, hosting, mapping, messaging, or other services, or link to external websites. Such third parties may have their own terms and privacy notices. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their independent practices, except to the extent responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.
17. Service availability and changes
We aim to operate a reliable service but may change, pause, restrict, or discontinue features for maintenance, security, legal compliance, or business reasons. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, particular listing visibility, a specific search result, successful item recovery, or preservation of any particular listing forever. Material changes affecting users will be communicated when required by law.
18. Disclaimers and allocation of responsibility
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Platform is provided on an "as available" and "as is" basis, without guarantees of continuous service, listing accuracy, recovery success, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement beyond warranties that cannot legally be excluded.
Users—not Lost-it—are principally responsible for their reports, communications, ownership representations, private reward agreements, and physical handovers. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, personal injury, mandatory statutory obligations, or any other matter that cannot legally be limited or excluded.
19. Limitations of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Company is not liable for losses caused solely by inaccurate user content, disputes between users, unlawful acts of third parties, failed private reward arrangements, unsafe meetings, or acts beyond our reasonable control, except to the extent attributable to the Company’s own breach of an enforceable duty.
To the same extent, we exclude indirect or consequential commercial losses, including lost profits, where such exclusion is lawful. We do not impose a blanket monetary liability cap in these Terms. These limitations do not affect rights or remedies that cannot be excluded or restricted under applicable consumer, privacy, or other mandatory laws.
20. Indemnification
To the extent allowed by law, if your intentional misconduct, unlawful content, fraudulent claims, or material breach of these Terms causes a third-party claim against the Company, you agree to reimburse reasonable, properly substantiated losses and defence costs directly resulting from that conduct. This clause does not make consumers responsible for losses caused by the Company’s own wrongdoing or override non-waivable rights.
21. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms to reflect changes in law, technology, features, or operational requirements. We will identify the updated date and provide advance notice of material changes when legally required or reasonably appropriate. Where consent is required for a change, we will seek it. Continued use after an effective change may indicate acceptance only where legally valid; users who do not accept may cease using the Platform and delete their account.
22. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are generally governed by the laws of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, without prejudice to mandatory consumer, data-protection, or other protections that apply to users in their own jurisdictions and cannot be excluded by contract.
Where legally permitted, disputes arising from these Terms may be brought before the competent courts in Amman, Jordan. This provision does not impose exclusive jurisdiction where doing so would deprive a consumer of a mandatory right to sue or be sued in another court, nor does it prevent complaints to competent regulators or authorities. We encourage users first to contact us so that the issue may be reviewed informally, without requiring them to waive legal rights or statutory deadlines.
23. Miscellaneous
If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective to the extent permitted by law. Our failure to enforce a provision immediately is not a waiver. You may not transfer your account or rights under these Terms without our consent where permitted by law; the Company may transfer its rights and obligations as part of a lawful reorganization or transfer of business, subject to applicable safeguards and notice requirements.
These Terms are written in English as the reference drafting language for this version. Any translation should be reviewed for accuracy; where local law requires otherwise, the legally prescribed language or interpretation rules prevail. No clause creates an employment, agency, partnership, fiduciary, or custodial relationship between a user and the Company.
